Position Overview
Alter-Learning is seeking an experienced Website Developer (WordPress/PHP) to join our growing international team.
The ideal candidate has strong experience in WordPress development, PHP programming, database management, and front-end technologies. This role focuses on developing, maintaining, optimizing, and expanding our WordPress-based website to support the company’s digital presence and business objectives.
You will collaborate with our marketing, design, and development teams to deliver a secure, responsive, high-performing, and user-friendly website.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance the company’s WordPress website.
- Write, maintain, and optimize PHP code for custom website functionality.
- Develop and customize WordPress themes, templates, and plugins.
- Implement front-end features using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery.
- Manage and optimize MySQL databases.
- Develop and integrate REST APIs and third-party services.
- Build and maintain landing pages, forms, content pages, and other website components.
- Implement responsive designs based on UI/UX requirements.
- Optimize website performance, loading speed, caching, and database efficiency.
- Maintain website security, updates, backups, and plugin compatibility.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues.
- Implement technical SEO and accessibility best practices.
- Collaborate with marketing and design teams on website improvements and new features.
- Use Git for version control and collaborative development.
- Support website deployment, testing, and ongoing maintenance.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional experience in WordPress and PHP website development.
- Strong proficiency in PHP, including object-oriented programming.
- Proven experience developing and customizing WordPress themes and plugins.
- Solid understanding of WordPress architecture, hooks, actions, filters, and custom post types.
- Strong knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and MySQL.
- Experience with WordPress REST API and third-party API integrations.
- Experience with responsive website development.
- Familiarity with Git and version control.
- Experience with website performance optimization and caching.
- Understanding of WordPress security best practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve front-end and back-end issues.
- Knowledge of technical SEO and web accessibility.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with a remote international team.
- Professional-level English proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with WordPress Gutenberg and custom block development.
- Familiarity with WooCommerce and payment integrations.
- Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React or Vue.js.
- Knowledge of AWS or other cloud hosting environments.
- Experience with website deployment workflows and staging environments.
- Familiarity with CRM, marketing automation, and analytics integrations.
- Experience with educational technology platforms or LMS integrations.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
- Experience working in startups or growing technology companies.
