Position Overview
Alter Learning is looking for a skilled Unreal Game Designer to join our innovative team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing high-quality educational games using Unreal Engine. You will work closely with educators, developers, and other designers to create immersive and interactive experiences that support learning objectives and engage students in a meaningful way.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop educational games using Unreal Engine, focusing on creating immersive and interactive experiences.
- Collaborate with educators to ensure that game content aligns with curriculum standards and educational goals.
- Create and maintain detailed design documentation, including game mechanics, level design, user interface, and interaction models.
- Conduct playtesting sessions, gather feedback, and iterate on game designs to improve usability and effectiveness.
- Work closely with developers and artists to implement and refine game features, ensuring a cohesive and polished final product.
- Optimize games for performance across various platforms, including PC, MAC-OS, and VR/AR devices.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices in game design, particularly in the educational and serious games sector.
Required Hard Skills
- Proficiency in Unreal Engine, with a strong portfolio demonstrating your experience in game design and development.
- Solid understanding of game design principles, including level design, user experience, and interactive storytelling.
- Experience in scripting within Unreal Engine (Blueprints or C++ preferred) to implement gameplay mechanics and interactions.
- Knowledge of 3D game development workflows, including modeling, texturing, and animation.
- Familiarity with UI/UX design as it pertains to game development.
- Experience in optimizing games for performance on various platforms, including VR and AR.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Game Design, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience in educational game development or a deep interest in the field.
- Familiarity with virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) design principles.
- Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and experience working in an Agile environment.
- Experience with game production tools such as Trello, Jira, or similar workflow management software.
