WordPress Back-End developer

Position Overview

Alter Learning is seeking a skilled WordPress Back-End Developer with a strong emphasis on PHP and JavaScript to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in writing custom code and developing robust back-end functionalities that enhance the performance, security, and scalability of our educational platform. Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance the back-end of WordPress websites, focusing on custom functionality and integrations.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented PHP code to extend WordPress capabilities.
  • Implement and customize plugins, as well as develop custom plugins when necessary.
  • Work with JavaScript to create dynamic and interactive features, ensuring seamless user experiences.
  • Optimize website performance, including database management, caching, and server-side optimizations.
  • Ensure website security by implementing best practices and staying updated on potential vulnerabilities.
  • Collaborate with front-end developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, including debugging and optimizing code.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a WordPress Back-End Developer with a strong portfolio of custom-coded projects.
  • Proficiency in PHP and JavaScript, with the ability to write custom code that is scalable and maintainable.
  • Strong understanding of WordPress architecture, including themes, plugins, and the WordPress REST API.
  • Experience with database management, particularly MySQL, including complex queries and optimizations.
  • Familiarity with WordPress coding standards and best practices for security and performance.
  • Ability to work with APIs and third-party integrations, including custom API development.
  • Experience with version control systems, such as Git, and a collaborative development environment.

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of modern JavaScript frameworks, such as React or Vue.js.
  • Experience with server management and deployment, including working with hosting providers.
  • Understanding of SEO best practices and how back-end development can impact site performance.
  • Familiarity with automated testing and continuous integration workflows.
  • Experience with WordPress multisite installations and large-scale projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with eCommerce platforms like WooCommerce and custom payment gateway integrations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on complex tasks.
  • A passion for staying up-to-date with the latest in web development technologies and best practices.
