Educational consultant for R&D

Position Overview

Alter Learning is seeking a dedicated Educational Consultant to join our Research and Development team. The ideal candidate will be a certified teacher with expertise in one or more of the following areas: high school science, middle school science, art, or music. This role is pivotal in assisting with the development of educational content for our games and ensuring that our offerings align with educational standards and objectives. A passion for gaming, combined with a strong background in education, will be essential for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of educational content for Alter Learning’s games, ensuring it aligns with curriculum standards and educational goals.
  • Collaborate with the development team to integrate scientific, artistic, and musical concepts into game design and mechanics.
  • Provide expertise in physics, engineering, life science, physical science, earth science, biology, art, or music to enhance the educational value of our games.
  • Review and contribute to educational materials and resources to support game-based learning.
  • Participate in game playtesting to ensure content accuracy and educational effectiveness.
  • Offer insights and recommendations on how to improve the integration of educational standards into game design.
  • Be open to supporting various areas of development beyond your primary certification as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Certified high school science teacher, middle school science teacher, art teacher, or music teacher.
  • Proven ability to assist with educational content related to physics, engineering, life science, physical science, earth science, biology, art, or music.
  • Enjoyment of games, both development and playing, with a minimal interest or knowledge in gaming preferred.
  • Willingness to contribute to various areas beyond primary certification.

  • Strong understanding of educational standards and how to apply them in a game-based learning context.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to analyze and apply educational concepts in a practical, engaging manner.
  • Enthusiasm for gaming and its potential to enhance learning experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing educational materials or content for games or interactive media.
  • Familiarity with STEAM education principles and practices.
  • Previous involvement in educational game development or similar projects.
