Position Overview
Alter Learning is seeking an experienced WordPress Full-Stack Developer with extensive knowledge of PHP to join our development team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both front-end and back-end development, with a particular focus on WordPress, and will be comfortable working in development staging environments. This role is crucial for ensuring our educational platform runs smoothly, is highly customizable, and remains secure.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance WordPress websites, including custom themes and plugins, using PHP.
- Work closely with the design and content teams to implement responsive and user-friendly interfaces.
- Ensure websites are optimized for performance, scalability, and security.
- Manage and execute the migration of websites from development (staging) to production environments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, including debugging and optimizing code.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest WordPress, PHP, and web development trends, best practices, and technologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and achieve project goals.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience in WordPress development, with a strong portfolio of custom themes, plugins, and website projects.
- Proficiency in PHP, with the ability to write clean, well-documented, and efficient code.
- Solid understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery.
- Experience with development staging environments, including setting up, managing, and deploying changes from staging to production.
- Knowledge of database management, particularly MySQL, and experience with complex queries and optimization.
- Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git, and the ability to work in a collaborative development environment.
- Understanding of web security practices and performance optimization techniques.
Desired Skills
- Experience with other back-end languages or frameworks, such as Laravel or Node.js.
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and third-party integrations.
- Knowledge of SEO best practices and how they apply to WordPress development.
- Experience with WordPress multisite installations and management.
- Ability to troubleshoot cross-browser compatibility issues and responsive design challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Previous experience working in an Agile or Scrum development environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience with web hosting environments, including server management and performance tuning.
