Position Overview
Alter Learning is seeking talented and creative Game Designers with strong Unity knowledge to join our team. As a Game Designer at Alter Learning, you will play a crucial role in developing engaging and educational games that align with our mission to revolutionize the learning experience. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to create innovative gameplay mechanics, captivating storylines, and user-friendly interfaces that resonate with students and educators alike.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop educational games using Unity, ensuring they are both engaging and pedagogically sound.
- Collaborate with educators and researchers to incorporate curriculum standards and learning objectives into game designs.
- Create and maintain detailed design documentation, including game mechanics, level design, and user interface elements.
- Conduct playtesting sessions and analyze feedback to iterate and refine game features.
- Work closely with developers and artists to bring your game concepts to life, ensuring a seamless integration of design and technical elements.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in game design and educational technology, and apply this knowledge to your work.
- Optimize games for performance across various platforms, including PC, MAC-OS, and mobile devices.
Required hard skills
- Proficiency in Unity, with a strong portfolio showcasing your experience in game design and development.
- Solid understanding of game design principles, including gameplay mechanics, level design, and user experience.
- Experience in scripting within Unity (C# preferred) to implement game mechanics and interactions.
- Knowledge of 2D and 3D game development workflows.
- Familiarity with UI/UX design principles as they relate to game development.
- Experience in optimizing games for different platforms and devices.
Required soft skills

Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Game Design, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience in educational game development or a strong interest in the field.
- Familiarity with virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) game design.
- Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and experience working in an Agile environment.
- Experience with game production tools such as Trello, Jira, or similar workflow management software.
